Early Childhood Education

It has been shown that ECE can be a major input into a child's formal education. A number of studies link ECE to increases in school readiness for primary school, and it has been shown that school readiness is an important predictor of early school achievement (Forget-Dubois et al 2007).

James Heckman, Nobel laureate in economics from the University of Chicago, "We cannot afford to postpone investing in children until they become adults, nor can we wait until they reach school age—a time when it may be too late to intervene. Learning is a dynamic process and is most effective when it begins at a young age and continues through to adulthood." (Heckman 2000, pg. 50)

The data has shown that a high quality preschool program centered on the developmental needs of children will have long term benefits for children.  Redeemer’s early childhood programs are designed to meet the following goals:

We have ECE programs for children from 18 mos. through 5 years of age.

  • Parents & TOTS – this class meets twice a week for 90 minutes.  Parents stay with their children and engage in learning together through play.
  • Preschool Threes – children must be 3 by December 31 and potty trained.  This class meets twice a week for 2 ½ hours.  Children learn social skills, as well as prereading and math skills through play in a well equipped classroom. Teacher Wiki
  • Preschool Fours – children must be 4 by December 31.  This class meets three times a week for 2 ½ hours.  Lessons are planned for further development of reading and math skills, preparing children for a smooth transition into kindergarten. Teacher Wiki
  • Preschool Fours/Fives – This class meets five times a week for 2 ½ hours.  Children in this class have had previous preschool experiences, and are ready for enriched learning experiences. Teacher Wiki
  • PreK Counts – This is a state funded preschool class for 3’s and 4’s that meets five times a week for 3 hours.   Children must be 3 by September 1, and families must meet income requirements. Teacher Wiki
