Second graders begin each day with the Kindergarten, First, Third, and Fourth graders for a time of devotion led by a teacher. Students are eager to start their day in God’s Word, as a reminder of how much they are loved and cared for. During this time, the students practice songs, hymns, Bible verses, and learn to put love, mercy, and grace into action.

Bible lessons: In second grade we are able to take a look at both the Old and New Testaments of God's Word in our curriculum. We take a look at God's love for us, in both his Law and Gospel messages. We are able to then look at how we come to faith in our one true God, identify ourselves as members of the body of Christ, and express our faith in worship of God and service. We learn to keep our eyes on Him, the author and perfecter of our faith.

Saxon phonics and MacMillan/McGraw Hill reading are used to develop all language arts skills, building on what our students have learned in previous grades. They extend their knowledge and use of word coding, and begin to read for content and understanding. They also use Accelerated Readers to reinforce comprehension skills. Students engage in more writing and grammar exercises with Shurley English. Their math studies continue in Saxon Math, with a continued emphasis on basic math facts and procedures. Science and social studies units are thematic, and taught using videos, trade books, and a wide variety of resources. Projects and activities are designed to reinforce learning and allow students an opportunity to share.

All second graders have both a vocal and instrumental class each week. Second graders continue to study the keyboard in their instrumental class, and basic music theory in their vocal class.

Physical Education is an important part of the curriculum, as active healthy students are better learners. Students have Phys. Ed. classes every day.
